Colorado progressive doomersKhemmis have returned with their new exclusive single for Decibel Magazine‘s ongoing Flexi-Disc series. The song, ‘Empty Throne‘, was recorded back in February exclusively for the popular offering. Of course it has only been a few short months since the Denver doomsters Khemmis topped Decibel‘s 2016 Album Of The Year list with their second LP, Hunted. And it’s only been a few short weeks since they owned the big stage with the majority of that record at the first annual Decibel Metal & Beer Fest. Enjoy!
I’ll be honest, when I read that a band is getting musical comparisons to acts like Soilwork and Extol then that will be plenty enough to convince me to at least check them out. The Calgary, AB progressive death metal band Divinity are getting those types of comparisons out in the music world and deservedly so. If I could add one of my own to the list it would be Strapping Young Lad and not because of the Canuck connection but because Divinity genuinely display some very SYL-ish moments in their music. Having never heard Divinity until recently, I was not fully prepared for the great musical content of their latest recorded offering, ‘The Immortalist‘, nor did I know the story of the music either.
See, The Immortalist (which will be released this Friday, May 26th) is the culmination of five long years of hard work and determination from Divinity. The album features 12 tracks that include their two previous EP releases “The Immortalist, Pt. 1 – Awestruck” and “The Immortalist, Pt. 2 –Momentum” with their 3rd EP “The Immortalist Pt. 3 – Conqueror” now completed to finish off the trilogy series as one huge full length album. All the tracks on the album are re-mixed and re-mastered by the talented Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Grid Productions) to make the songs more cohesive and work as a full-length experience. Plus, the song ‘D.M.T.‘ features a guest appearance from Soilwork/Night Flight Orchestra’s Bjorn ‘Speed‘ Strid.
The band commented on their upcoming effort saying: “We’re very proud of our new album! Our dedication to song writing, recording and producing these 12 songs over the past 5 years has been a crazy musical journey and a huge learning experience that we will never forget. Our lyrical content and artwork is based on an original science-fiction concept story about a character who wakes up in a random field within an intricate crop circle with no memory of who he is or how he got there. The character is then thrown into a crazy adventure and eventually learns who he is and how to become immortal. There’s so much more to the story but we don’t want to give it all way just yet.”
Today, Taste Nation LLC is giving you the opportunity to stream Divinity‘s ‘The Imortalist‘ in its entirety below. Pre-order of the album is available on Divinity.ca, iTunes or Amazon plus an exclusive digi-pak CD available on their website for those who like to support the band directly. The digi-pak CD contains a 24-page booklet that showcases this entire concept giving fans way a full physical experience to the story, songs, lyrics, and visual aspect of the new album. Enjoy!

Boston’s heavy rock collective known as Summoner recently released their third studio recording, Beyond The Realm Of Light, via Magnetic Eye Records. The follow-up to 2013’s Atlantian and 2012’s Phoenix finds the band further exploring the intricacies of melodic, riff-driven progressive rock music. There is a swaggering sense of purpose and clearly defined intent with this latest outing, one that guitarist AJ Peters commented on saying:
“With Beyond The Realm Of Light we wanted a more sharply focused, hard hitting album while still exploring the thoughtful lyrical concepts and melodic voice of our past efforts. Our statement on the path humanity has taken and what lies ahead.“
Today, Taste Nation LLC is streaming the latest album from Summoner, Beyond The Realm Of Light, in its entirety below. It is out now and available for purchase here.
Castro Valley, California’sPower Of Pain have released a new single and official video for their track ‘Tastes Like H8‘, a song tackling the subject of teen bullying and features Exodus/Dublin Death Patrol/Tenet singer Steve “Zetro” Souza. The song itself is taken from the band’s newly released album, My Dark Secret, which was produced by Juan Urteaga (Testament, Exodus, Machine Head) at Trident Studios. Additional tracking was done at Green Day’s Jingle Town Studio while video production duties were handled by Wayne Marsala (Testament, Exodus).
Power Of Pain was formed by guitarist Mike Roberts in 2015 out of the ashes of his previous former act, Bleed The Freaks. Recruiting fellow Bleed The Freaks guitarist Josh Bailey, the two assembled a new band, completed by singer Chris Carlton, bassist Zack Brown, and drummer Steve Rubio, and went straight into the studio.
“Bleed The Freaks went through a bad break up,” reflects Roberts. “I felt that everyone had given up on me, but perseverance was my goal. Having a full CD of music ready to go, I just forged on,” he states. The result is My Dark Secret, a ten song slab of top shelf groove metal, rounded out by a cover of the UFO classic, “Natural Thing”.”
When asked about Souza’s involvement, Roberts comments: “Zet and I are childhood friends and long time Raiders fans together. I had written the song with him in mind. Zet is a true professional. He came in the studio and sang the song in one take. We filmed the video on his birthday. I’m very grateful that he is a part of it.”
My Dark Secret is available on iTunes and all major digital outlets now.

From the heart of Deventer, Netherlands comes the latest studio offering from the hazily fuzzened foursome Drive By Wire, ‘The Whole Shebang‘. Issued just yesterday (May 19th) through Argonauta Records comes this heady, wholesome opus of psychedelia-laden Desert/Stoner Rock. It’s one that is made that much more the powerful thanks to the full-on sultriness of singer Simone Holsbeek. Her vocals, merged with the magnificent musicality provided by Alwin Wubben, Jerome Miedendorp de Bie, Marcel Zerb and Rene Rutten, make this a record that is impossible to ignore.
Drive By Wire manages to distill their inspirations and influences into a warmly organic sound, but one with the urgency and dynamics of 90′s grunge (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains), the sensuality of PJ Harvey and the deliciously heavy psychedelic fuzz grooves of all the great 70′s bands. I am pretty confident in saying that once you start this album to playing, you won’t be able to turn itoff until the last song wraps up…and even then you will probably be inclined to hit Repeat again.
See if what I’m saying is true by giving Drive By Wire‘s ‘The Whole Shebang‘ a precursory spin via the Soundcloud embed below. In the meantime, don’t forget, the album is out right now from Argonauta Records!
Pacific Northwest rockers Red Fang, who are playing atRock On The Rangetoday coincidentally, are debuting their latest Official Video, ‘Cut It Short‘. The Relapse Records-issued band’s fourth album was produced by the famed Ross Robinson (Sepultura, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot) and reached #143 on the US Billboard 200. Whitey McConnaughy directed the clip, continuing the partnership that birthed previous videos for “Wires”, “Prehistoric Dog”, “Hank Is Dead” and most recently “Shadows”.

W.A.S.P...one of the biggest, most iconic acts in the history of heavy metal and hard rock. In 1992, the band released their hugely ambitious conceptual album ‘The Crimson Idol‘, an acclaimed release revered to this day in fact. The story behind the album’s theme was the tale of the neglected, abused child Aaron Steele whose hunger for love and acceptance leads him to music eventually. In a tale that all too many musicians know as their own realities, Aaron gains international fame and stardom. That superficial love is accompanied by all the excesses of the rock and roll life i.e. abundant sex, drugs and so much more and of course, Aaron is destined for a catastrophic fall.
2017 is the 25th anniversary of The Crimson Idol and something that many fans either don’t know or may have forgotten is that there’s much more to the story. The Crimson Idol was also intended to be developed into a cinematic feature, a movie to accompany the album’s release. There was actually several hundred hours of film that was shot to create approximately 50 minutes of movie footage…and this film has never been released – Until now!
Napalm Records proudly announces “Re-Idolized“, the 25th anniversary of the iconic hit album plus the original “The Crimson Idol” movie on DVD and Blu-ray! For the first time EVER as originally intended – film and soundtrack united – released as one product! While the actual release date has yet to be finalized, “Re-Idolized” will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and vinyl later this year!
Check out the video teaser for the upcoming Napalm Records release below along with the itinerary of W.A.S.P.‘s upcoming World Tour to accompany this historic series of events.
