THE NEW ROSES To Release ‘One More For The Road’ In August; Video Premiere

Wiesbaden, Germany-based 4-piece, The New Roses, are about to return with their brand new album, One More For The Road, set to be released on August 25th via Napalm Records. The 11 song (14 with the special edition with bonus tracks) album is a bluesy ode to melodic rock, one rife with Eighties overtones and southern rock styling. We can’t wait to play it live on our upcoming tour, because these songs were written for a hot stage, a loud crowd and a kick ass rock’n’roll band!

The video below finds the band’s vocalist/guitarist Nate Bergman facing off against pro-wrestler The Almighty Sheik and was directed by Miguel “M.I.G.” Martinez using an iPhone 7 with special lenses. Lionize bassist Hank Upton commented on the song saying:

So much of our career as a band has been following our instincts and running headlong into the unknown with no regard for how insane a tour/show/song idea might be. I feel like that passion & willingness to take a risk has gotten us very far. Naturally, though, you’re walking a tightrope. Same goes for your personal life with romance or substances, etc. Passion and heart will take you everywhere but where’s the line? I was trying to investigate that feeling.

Lionize will embark on a string of tour dates in the U.S. abroad beginning in July. You can find their currently scheduled dates below also.

HE WHOSE OX IS GORED ‘Paralyzer’ 7″ Review & Official Video; Tour Dates

HE WHOSE OX IS GORED
Paralyzer – 7″ Maxi Single
Chain Letter Collective/Void Assault Records- Release Date: June 16th, 2017
Reviewed By: Pat ‘Riot’ Whitaker

The Emerald City’s ethereal sludge/post-rock unit He Whose Ox Is Gored will issue a new 7″ Maxi-Single, ‘Paralyzer‘, via Chain Letter Collective and the band’s own label Void Assault Records on June 16th. This is in lieu of some copies recently being made available at the band’s show with Conan, North, and Serial Hawk back on May 14th and subsequent tour with Samothrace. Anyway, the content on the release is quite intriguing indeed as ‘Paralyzer‘ was recorded as part of a Converse Rubber Tracks session and includes two previously released tracks — “Buried Twice” and “Void Assault” from the band’s critically-lauded Rumors EP — remixed by Seattle’s own Newaxeyes. But wait, there’s more! The recording itself is the result of efforts from the legendary producer Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nirvana, L7, High On Fire, Zeke) at Avast! Recording Studio.

So, what we have here is three tracks and it officially begins with title cut, ‘Paralyzer‘, an uptempo tempest of crunchy rhythms and buzzing guitars. It is highly energized and seemingly chaotic, like a hive abuzz with activity and sheer presence. Ethereal nuances ripple forth from within at times, airy and graciously afloat upon the turbulent sea of sonic waves crashing beneath. Aggro vocals alternate with cleanly given ones, all the while some fantastic drum work pummels the kit through out the song. Just check out the official visualizer clip (the band’s first ever in fact) for the song and you’ll hear exactly what I’m talking about:

Now we arrive at the first of the two remixed songs, ‘Buried Twice (NWXYS Slime Mix)‘ which begins with a bit of electronica before an unleashing of rhythmic pulses take hold. Battering drums bring the beat as effect-heavy vocals are unfurled, all while some touches of cosmic-like electronics appear here and there. In fact, the evident presence of keys/organs/synths go far in providing a definitve alternative rock roll out of the song. Things really get more unhinged with the next selection, ‘Void Assault (VOIDED Mix)‘, all of which arrives with some trippy electro-psychedelia to start. A hazy, otherworldly setting is established with the very first few vibes of the cut, one where a wide, limitless expanse seems to unfold before you. Pulses of ethereal inflections blip and whirl at intermittent points while the feel of lysergic consciousness is augmented by the chopped vocalizations ringing outward. Things remain in this semi-instrumental state for the duration and ultimately end the 7″ with the equivalent of an out-of-body experience.

Meanwhile, you may get the chance to see the band pretty much repsonsible for all of this, He Whose Ox Is Gored, depending on where you currently reside. The band is out touring with Samothrace right now and here are the remaining dates of the trek:

5/31/2017 Three Links – Dallas, TX
6/01/2017 89th St. – Oklahoma City, OK
6/02/2017 71 Grind Festival – Colorado Springs, CO
6/03/2017 Loading Dock – Salt Lake City, UT
6/04/2017 Beauty Bar – Las Vegas, NV
8/05/2017 Green Room – Flagstaff, AZ
6/06/2017 Yucca Tap Room – Tempe, AZ

HIGHER POWER ‘Soul Structure’ Review & Stream; Tour Dates

HIGHER POWER
Soul Structure – LP
Flatspot Records & Venn Records – Release Date: May 19th, 2017
Reviewed By: Pat ‘Riot’ Whitaker

Leeds, UK-based band Higher Power have just released their debut LP, Soul Structure, through a cooperative release between Flatspot Records and Venn Records this past Friday, May 19th. The album was recorded by Misha Hering at Holy Mountain, with vocals recorded by James Atkinson at Mutiny Studios. The album was mixed by Arthur Rizk at Salomons Gate (Power Trip, Mizery, War Hungry) and mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust). It features artwork by Sam Bailey but it is the music that I am here to talk about.

Many of you that are here reading this will probably be too young to have experienced much of the great music of the Nineties. Both the Hardcore and Alternative Rock scenes of that decade were thriving hotbeds of fantastic music, ones that pretty much had a sound and style all their own at the time. Let’s be honest, not many modern or current bands can successfully capture that era’s somewhat “signature” aural calling card..well, that is ’til now. Meet vocalist J Town (Jimmy Wizard), drummer Alex, guitarists Louis and Max and bassist Pete who together collectively are Higher Power. Before you listen to them via the full stream of Soul Structure below, let me ask you something: Were you around in those aforementioned 90’s?

If you were then surely you recall great bands like Leeway, Ignorance, Helmet or perhaps the more obscure Stick? If you do and you liked those bands then this is something you are going to love. If you weren’t there but you can still appreciate unique sounding, energized, ass-kicking heavy music then you too are in luck, my friends. Higher Power bring the noise and a whole hell of a lot more on their stellar debut full-length outing here. With chunky guitars, rapid rhythmic pulses, and super tight, in the pocket drumming, their music will uplift you. Real life lyrical tales are woven into the sonic fabric and told with agression-tinged vocals that would make the mighty Cro-Mags themselves proud.

There’s no getting around it and why would you want to? Higher Power have been powerfully blessed with the skills needed to bring Soul Structure to life.  From the energetic chug-along of intro cut ‘Can’t Relate‘ and its beefy guitars, ones that stop and start on a dime while keeping the energy levels high, things don’t let up. Other highlights include ‘Hole‘, ‘Four Walls Black‘ and the fantastic album-closing ‘You Ain’t Got Much‘ but truth is, there is not a bad track here. But don’t just take my word for it, do yourself a favor and go stream the Higher Power debut, Soul Structure, below now and I believe that you will discover that you too are a baller at the altar of groove.

FYI: My favorite track is ‘Reflect‘. – Pat ‘Riot’ Whitaker

W.A.S.P. To Celebrate 25th Anniversary Of ‘The Crimson Idol’ With Re-Issue To Include Original, Unreleased Film; Video Teaser + World Tour

W.A.S.P...one of the biggest, most iconic acts in the history of heavy metal and hard rock. In 1992, the band released their hugely ambitious conceptual album ‘The Crimson Idol‘, an acclaimed release revered to this day in fact. The story behind the album’s theme was the tale of the neglected, abused child Aaron Steele whose hunger for love and acceptance leads him to music eventually. In a tale that all too many musicians know as their own realities, Aaron gains international fame and stardom. That superficial love is accompanied by all the excesses of the rock and roll life i.e. abundant sex, drugs and so much more and of course, Aaron is destined for a catastrophic fall.

2017 is the 25th anniversary of The Crimson Idol and something that many fans either don’t know or may have forgotten is that there’s much more to the story. The Crimson Idol was also intended to be developed into a cinematic feature, a movie to accompany the album’s release. There was actually several hundred hours of film that was shot to create approximately 50 minutes of movie footage…and this film has never been released – Until now!

Napalm Records proudly announces “Re-Idolized, the 25th anniversary of the iconic hit album plus the original “The Crimson Idol” movie on DVD and Blu-ray! For the first time EVER as originally intended – film and soundtrack united – released as one product! While the actual release date has yet to be finalized, “Re-Idolized” will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and vinyl later this year!

Check out the video teaser for the upcoming Napalm Records release below along with the itinerary of W.A.S.P.‘s upcoming World Tour to accompany this historic series of events.
